It had been more than 4 years since I was last there and partly expected that a lot of things had already changed. Contrary to my expectation, I perceived that almost nothing has changed. The building seen in the picture is called the Schloss Premstätten. The foundation of this castle was laid by the knights of Premstätten in 1164. Today, this castle is being used an office by the company that I now work for. So they say that there's actually a lot of history in our workplace. Sana lang walang mga "mumu". Hehe.

As you can see, snow has already started to fall here and the temperature has further dropped to as low as -6°C. My mother thinks that this might be the earliest winter she has ever experienced in her 15 years here. I hope that it won't be the longest though. Right now I'm still enjoying the cold weather but I just don't know for how long.

Ich bin hier!

It has been more than a week since my arrival here in Austria. So far so good. The picture above shows the bed portion of the hotel room where I am currently staying at. I'll be staying here until I find a place of my own. It's pretty convenient since the hotel is only 10 minutes away from the office on foot. My only problem is that during that 10 minute walk, I become exposed to the cold weather. Already, the temperature has dropped to as low as 2°C since I arrived and it is expected to get colder in the weeks to come. This time I just want to write little bits of things about this and that.

It's been a month since my last day of work in ADI. For short, it's been a month since I became a bum! Not that I'm complaining. Actually, I'm beginning to get the hang of it. Now I understand why a lot of people don't want to look for work. Being a bum is quite enjoyable. Believe me, the whole month of me being jobless passed by like a flash. Unfortunately, it will be over soon. I still don't know when exactly I'll be leaving but I think it will not be later than the 2nd week of next month.

Some people keep a mental list of the things that they want to do when they have the time, but never really get to do them when they do have the time. I'm one of those people. There are some things though that I regret not doing during my month-long break, like traveling to parts of the country I've never been to, signing up for volunteer work for a good cause, dining at places I've always wanted to try eating at, etc. Anyway, there's still some time to do at least one of those things. I think I'll be doing the eating thing!

Pesteng Pesto

"Pesteng pesto ni Pau, pesteng pesto ni Pau, pesteng pesto ni Pau..." Not everyone can appreciate the herby and pungent taste of this pasta, but Anne and I love it! Not your usual free appetizer but nevertheless truly fascinating as eating it is a great pastime while waiting for your orders to come. Although, eversince I have been mystified by this native delicacy. Why? It's because out of the countless watermelons that I have seen and eaten, I have never encountered any that has seeds that are as large as the butong pakwans that we eat. Makes me wonder, where did all these big watermelon seeds come from? I heard a really gross story about how these butong pakwans are made. Don't know if it's true though. I've tried Google-ing for the answer but found nothing. It's not often that I get to see hot air balloons being inflated just a few meters away from me. It's just unfortunate that the sky was a little gloomy that morning which made it quite hard for me to get good pictures. Plus, the batteries of my camera ran out before noon, which was also unfortunate since the sun suddenly decided to show a little during the afternoon! The picture above is one of the few decent pictures I took during the event. My current situation is still no different but this time I choose to slack for a while and blog.

The photo above is this blog's first guest photo. The shot was taken by my sister inside the House of Music (Haus der Musik) in Vienna. That's me trying desperately to virtually conduct the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra. It was a very entertaining interactive activity but apparently, I suck at it big time. I never thought conducting would be so difficult. In one of my attempts, one musician got so mad at me. He stood up, started scolding me and urged everyone to walk out, leaving me alone on the stage. What a shame! Good thing I did not understand everything he said since it was in German, otherwise, I would have been more hurt. Hahaha! At least now I have more respect for conductors.

Les Champs-Elysées

They say it's probably the most famous avenue in the world. Thinking about it now, it's name gives me the creeps. Hehehe. Part of our itinerary was the Residence Inn which houses a small zoo. I pity the animals there because they were confined in such small and somewhat dirty cages. Quite a big difference from their natural habitat. I noticed also that most of them were sleeping when we got there. Either they're sick and tired of being caged or it was really just their siesta time.

It's a Bird

Early this week, we all heard the news that Superman is dead. I actually did not want to take the picture with that making out couple. The truth is, I patiently waited for them to finish and go away. After about 15 minutes of waiting, I realized that they're probably practicing for some kind of kissing marathon and me waiting further would be a total waste of time. I decided that they could add some interesting element into the photo (hopefully, not a very distracting element) so I went ahead and photographed away. Now outdated, worn-out and damaged through time, the former status of my grandparents' house in their barrio remains only as a faint memory in the distant past. Hehe. Sure enough it was really nice. Every country in the world contributed something in the construction of this building, thus promoting peace among all nations. For example, the clock at the bell tower was contributed by Switzerland. Its map literally looks like a spider web. After figuring it out, another challenge is the actual going and transferring to the different lines. It's really quite an adventure.

~o~O~o~
I don't know why, but Fridays are usually the busiest day of the week for me. I almost was not able to do this today. Having been able to complete this final task for the day, I'm now looking forward to having a great weekend.

Overcast Sky

The simple beauty of the sky is something that we could all easily appreciate. For me, its something that has infinite possibilities.

~o~O~o~
Today has been one sleepy Thursday for me. But during lunch time, I became temporarily wide awake because of a dance production number in our canteen. Imagine 10 guys dressed like ancient Egyptians dancing ala-that's entertainment! I thought it was really funny but I was trying very hard to suppress my laughter because I did not want to offend the performers. Apparently, today is ethnic day (how the ancient Eyptians relate? i'm still figuring it out). Don't know if there's really such a thing or it's just something that our canteen concessionaire made-up. It may very well be just a gimmick so that they could do this sort of promotion that if you buy P50 worth of food from them, you'd be entitled to win different sorts of prizes. Well, I fell for it. I bought exactly P50 worth of food from them (normally, I only spend less than P30 for my lunch) so that I can pick a prize. Guess what I won... A ballpen. Good thing I get to pick the color of the pen. I picked green, of course.

Hundred Islands

This photo goes back to the summer of year 2000, during my first company outing at Hundred Islands, Pangasinan. The water from the island where we were staying to the nearby island was shallow enough that one does not need any swimming skills to go to it. Just watch out for those nasty sea urchins which may pierce and leave spikes in your feet if you step on them. Ouch! The photo shows my ex-officemates trying to go to that nearby island.
